Cedric Coward
After starring at the D-3 level and playing two years at Eastern Washington, Coward transferred to Washington State for his senior season but only suited up for 6 games due to a shoulder injury. Nonetheless, Coward impressed to start the year and has a track record of strong production. He has the measurables to play wing in the NBA and is an efficient scorer from all three levels. His large sample of offensive versatility is intriguing, but the fact that he hasn’t played against the nation’s top competition in his college career raises questions about how his game will translate to the next level.
Strengths:
Impressive shooter from three-point range, mid-range, and the free throw line. Elevates well on his jump-shot and is knockdown on catch-and-shoot.
Comfortable playing out of the post and finished well around the rim all 4 years of his college career.
Unselfish offensive player who moves the ball well on the perimeter.
Solid wing defender who uses his length well in passing lanes and shot contests.
Rebounded well every year of his college career. Has a high motor as a defender and on the glass.
Weaknesses:
Can improve his physicality defending on the perimeter. Will need to limit dribble penetration more effectively to take the next step as a defender.
Didn’t produce the high steal rates that you would expect for a prospect with his defensive tools.
Lack of high-level competition at the college level raises questions about how his game will translate to the NBA.
Has room to grow as a ball-handler. Turns the ball over against ball pressure at times.
