Collin Murray-Boyles

Collin Murray-Boyles is a bruising forward who plays with impressive physicality on both ends of the court. Despite being slightly undersized for a big man, Murray-Boyles is an efficient scorer in the paint, using his strength to carve out space and bump defenders in the post. He’s got high-level feel as a playmaker, making passing reads as a hub at the top of the key and also out of the post. The defensive end is where Murray-Boyles truly thrives, as he can defend in the post, move his feet on the perimeter, and rakes in a high rate of steals and blocks. The biggest concern with Murray-Boyles is his inability to space the floor, as he hasn’t shown he can consistently knock down shots from three or the mid-range.

Strengths:

  • Versatile defender who can force turnovers, guard in the post, move his feet on the perimeter, and provide secondary rim protection.

  • Physical rebounder uses his strength to carve out space and position himself well for boards.

  • Smart passer who can be a playmaker from various spots on the floor.

  • Comfortable as a passer or scorer out of the post. Loves to get to his left hand and bump defenders with his shoulders.

  • Shown he can face up and attack slower defenders off the dribble. Improved his handle from his freshman season.

Weaknesses:

  • Non-shooter with concerning mechanics. Doesn’t project as a floor-spacer at the next level.

  • Left-hand dominance around the rim and lack of size overall raise concern about how his paint-dominant scoring will translate to the next level.

  • Turned the ball over too frequently in his sophomore season.
