Jase Richardson
While Jase Richardson may lack ideal size for an NBA combo guard, his impressive shooting efficiency and soft touch around the rim provide a clear glimpse into how he could carve out a role at the next level. He was extremely effective as a scorer while mostly coming off the bench for MSU in his lone college season, shooting 41.2 percent from three, ranking in the 95th percentile for all college players on catch and shoot efficiency, and having impressive shooting numbers around the rim for a player his size. Playing alongside other guards, Richardson played his role as a score-first shooting guard at the college level. He will have to prove he can handle a large workload as a lead-ball handler in NBA offense, but his ability to impact the game without constantly needing the ball is an impressive trait.
Strengths:
Highly efficient offensive player who shot over 40% from three-point range in his lone college season. Solid mechanics with high arc on his shot and a clean release.
Comfortable scoring out of pick and roll. Shot well at the rim and has feathery touch on floaters and close-range shots.
Scores well off spot-up opportunities. Knockdown off catch and shoot and has a feel for attacking closeouts.
Has decent length and athleticism for a player his height. Solid feel on the defensive end and has good hands.
Weaknesses:
Lack of size raises questions about how his finishing and defense will translate to the next level.
Didn’t have a high volume of on-ball reps at MSU. Jury is still out when it comes to his ability to run an offense as a true point guard.
Will need to improve his handle and quickness to become a true threat in isolation situations.
