Kasparas Jakucionis

Jakucionis is a lead guard with solid positional size and high upside as a playmaker. After a hot shooting start this past season, an injury riddled stretch run coincided with some poor shooting outputs and worrisome turnover numbers. With that being said, his pick and roll feel, flashes as an off the dribble shooter, and creativity as a scorer in the paint put him firmly in my top 8 for this years draft class.

Strengths:

  • Efficient as a pick-and-roll ball handler. Threat to pass, shoot, or drive off screens. Excellent at hitting the roll man for dunks or layups.

  • Uses his eyes to shift defenses and is capable of making advanced passing reads.

  • Comfortable off the dribble shooter. His stepback jumper is a translatable go-to move.

  • Uses fakes, footwork, and his frame to finish at the basket.

  • Gets to the free throw line at a high rate.

  • Impact rebounder on both ends.

Weaknesses:

  • Major turnover issues that got worse as the season progressed. Can throw overzealous passes and lose his handle against physical defense.

  • Average lateral quickness and athleticism limit his defensive upside.

  • Became somewhat of a streaky shooter as the season progressed despite solid jumpshot mechanics.

  • Lacks burst off the dribble, which raises concerns about his ability to consistently get downhill in isolation.
