Labaron Philon Jr.
Philon Jr. is a crafty combo guard with impressive ball-handling and shot creation. He's a quick player off the bounce who uses change of pace well to get past defenders and collapse defenses. Around the rim, he has a deep bag of moves to throw off the timing of defenders and get his shot off in crowded areas. He took major strides as a jump shooter this past season, and also showed he can truly lead an offense as a high-usage point guard after playing more off the ball in his freshman year. Philon has questions surrounding his slight frame and whether he can hold up physically against bigger, stronger guards on both ends of the floor
Strengths:
Confident ball-handler that can run an offense and create space with his dribble. Rarely sped up when playing against pressure defense.
Unselfish playmaker with an overall feel for setting up his teammates, especially in drive and kick situations.
Comfortable pushing the pace and an efficient scorer in transition.
Engaged on-ball defender with quick hands and a knack for forcing turnovers.
Plays well through contact on the offensive end.
Much improved jump shooter who has the ability to create shots off the dribble.
Weaknesses:
Lacks strength and can get taken to the rim by bigger guards and forwards.
Could improve his focus when guarding off the ball on the defensive end.
Lacks short area vertical pop, profiles as more of a below the rim finisher.
Could improve his screen navigation on the defensive end.
