Maxime Raynaud

Standing at 7’1” with impressive shooting and fluidity, Maxime Raynaud has the tools to be a floor-spacing big man at the next level. Raynaud saw his role increase in all 4 years of his career at Stanford, eventually putting up some of the best all-around numbers in the country during his senior season. He has a funky release with a low set point on his jumpshot, but he shoots with good arc and was effective from three on high volume during his final year of college. Raynaud also has solid touch in the post and has flashes of impressive passing vision on offense. With that being said, Raynaud has questionable defensive upside and is one of the older prospects in the draft class.

Strengths:

  • Potential as a floor-spacing center. Shot a high volume of three pointers in his senior season and shot a respectable clip.

  • Has a feel for scoring and playmaking out of the post. Good touch on hooks and push shots.

  • Can throw passes over the top of defenses to cutting teammates. Capable of throwing skip passes out of the post.

  • Rebounded well throughout his college career.

  • Moves his feet well while guarding on the perimeter. Improved as a defender in his senior season.

Weaknesses:

  • Leaves more to be desired as a rim protector for a player his size.

  • Doesn’t project as a center on the defensive end in the NBA. Will need to continue his improvement as a perimeter defender to match up against quicker forwards.

  • Slow release on his jumpshot which gives defenders a chance to get quality contests. Will have to adjust when run off the 3-point line in the NBA.

  • Lacks length and is an older prospect, which raises questions about his defensive upside.
