Ryan Kalkbrenner

Kalkbrenner is a monstrous center prospect with 5 years of college experience and NBA-ready shot-blocking ability. He’s been one of the best rim protectors in college basketball for the last 4 years, averaging over 2 blocks per game while playing 30+ games each season. On offense, Kalkbrenner is a physical presence in the post who can shoot hook shots right over defenders. He’s a massive target on rolls and in the dunker spot, and his presence down low eliminates opportunities for opposing teams to play small in the front court.

Strengths:

  • Lockdown rim protector with a massive standing reach and impressive timing. Elite at contesting shots without fouling. Plays well in drop coverage.

  • Highly efficient post player with improved footwork and soft touch around the basket.

  • Improving floor spacer who has stretched has increased his volume of three point attempts every year of his career.

  • Has continued to work on his frame and become stronger throughout college.

Weaknesses:

  • Lacks switchability on defense given his foot speed. Will have to adjust to guarding big men that can shoot on the perimeter, as he almost exclusively roamed in the paint during college.

  • Isn’t the most physical rebounder. Should be a more dominant player on the boards given his size.

  • Limited upside as a passer/playmaker.
