Thomas Sorber
Sorber is a center with impressive post-scoring ability and defensive impact. He’s got a massive wingspan for a player his height, and his length helps him contest shots at the rim and force turnovers in passing lanes. Sorber likes to work out of the low post on offense, using his footwork and strength to score efficiently near the rim. Sorber has solid feel as a passer but still has room to improve as a floor spacer. With that being said, his overall confidence to shoot shots from the mid-range and beyond the arc is a positive sign. Sorber will have to prove that he is a good enough athlete to hold his own while guarding in space, as well as improve as a jump-shooter in order to reach his full potential.
Strengths:
Confident scorer in the post with solid footwork. Plays well through physical defense down low.
Effective rim protector who does a good job of walling up to prevent fouls. Has a massive wingspan for a player his height. Knows when to help off his man to protect the rim.
Quick hands on defense and has a feel for reading passing lanes to grab steals or cause deflections.
Should fit well in NBA offense given his comfortably as a passer and screener. Showed he was capable of hitting cutters from the top of the key area and also making quick passing decisions out of the post.
Had flashes of mid-range scoring despite poor shooting efficiency.
Weaknesses:
More of a below the rim finisher on offense. Lacks vertical pop around the basket.
Has questionable foot speed and lateral quickness, which causes concern about him being able to guard in space. Most effective playing drop coverage as opposed to other ball screen coverages.
Room to improve as a floor spacer. Shot a high rate of threes in his freshman season but lacked effectiveness as a pick and pop big.
Lack of overall explosiveness raises questions about his transition to the next level.
